Healthcare Ethics Consultant Training: Clinical Ethics

These sessions will discuss ethical consultation in a healthcare setting. The goal of these sessions is to teach interested learners to identify issues and conflicts that are value laden, address consult requests in an effective manner and to make recommendations to the requesting healthcare professionals, patients and family members. This session will include three 1-hour classes open to all interested healthcare professionals and will be presented in hybrid format.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course includes physicians, advance practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, chaplains and any other healthcare professionals who express interest in learning about healthcare ethics consultation

Learning Objectives

Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define clinical ethics and concepts, and name the steps in the ethics consultation process
  • Identify hospital policies involving clinical ethicists and ethics consultation
  • Apply strategies to build strong moral arguments and write effective ethics consultation recommendations
