Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS)

November 14, 2024 to November 15, 2024

Increased specialization and rapid advances in critical care medicine make staying updated on new procedures and treatment protocols difficult. The FCCS curriculum is intended to introduce principles important in the initial care of critically ill/injured patients to physicians, physicians-in-training, nurses and other healthcare providers who may or may not be skilled in critical care but who must care for such patients during early stabilization and in anticipation of the arrival of an intensivist, specialist or pending transfer of a patient to a tertiary center.

Target Audience

Non-intensivists, hospitalists, Emergency and Trauma physicians, APPs, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists and Pharmacists involved in the stabilization and management of critically ill patients

Learning Objectives

Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of a critically ill patient and begin to initiate treatment
  • Apply strategies to initiate the treatment and management of respiratory failure, including intubation and mechanical ventilation
  • Differentiate and respond to the different types of shock and begin to initiate the use of vasopressors
