Jay Simonson, MD
About me
I am a cardiac electrophysiologist. As an "electrician of the heart" I treat patients with heart rhythm abnormalities or arrhythmias. There is a wide variety of medications and interventional procedures that can be used to treat arrhythmias. Such treatments can dramatically improve quality of life and often prolong life. It is gratifying to see the relief and joy of a patient who has been cured or had their condition improved by arrhythmia treatment. However, it is the wisdom to select the appropriate methods of treatment and the compassionate application of this technology that will optimize these outcomes for patients. Educating my patients and taking time to talk with them is an important aspect of my care. This helps my patients understand their disease, select the right treatment and maximize their health.
I have extensive experience and expertise in all aspects and treatments of heart arrhythmias. My major area of expertise is using complex ablation procedures to eliminate troublesome symptoms, especially in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. I was the first in Minnesota to do radiofrequency ablation. I have been doing ablation procedures for over 30 years and have done thousands of procedures. My patient outcomes for these procedures exceed national reports. I have similar extensive experience and excellent results with installing pacemakers and ICDs (implantable cardioverter-defibrillators). Additionally, as the Medical Director of Cardiology Research at Park Nicollet, I also pursue new and innovative treatments for patients.
